WHAT MAKES OUR COFFEE ‘DELICIOUS’?
Deliciously Girlie coffee is sweet because we pick only the reddest, ripest coffee cherries. No cherry is ever picked before its time, making it one of the mildest, naturally flavorful coffees in the world! Our coffee is processed the old-fashioned way, meaning by hand! Each coffee cherry is selected by a human eye and then hand picked at the 'cherry ripe' or red stage. Coffee in some countries is picked at the green, yellow or brown stage, but it doesn't produce the quality cup that you get from 'cherry ripe' coffee.
Commercial grades of coffee are also cheaper because they utilize coffee harvesting machinery. These mowers look like a carwash-on-wheels: they brush over the trees and strip them of everything, even rotten, dried-up or unripe green beans, leaves, bugs, bird nests, whatever. All that (and then some), is hurried into a super-pulper and then into a giant heat dryer afterwards. Yuck! The secret to our great tasting coffee isn't just the cultivation. The processing of Deliciously Girlie coffee is just as painstakingly precise as the growing and picking. After our coffee is picked, it is then 'floated' in pure Hawaiian rainwater. A little known secret to a coffee's success is the weight of the coffee cherries. The 'floaters' are bad and are taken away, the 'sinkers' are best, and that’s what ends up in your cup.
Deliciously Girlie never utilizes modern methods to speed up the fermenting process or to dry our coffee via artifical heat (which destroys the rich antioxidants). Our coffee is processed slowly by soaking the coffee cherries for a few hours in fresh, clean rain water, this allows the actual bean to ferment and separate naturally from the fruit. The beans are then rinsed and left to dry in the sun for about a week, which gently removes the chlorophyls, and until the perfect moisture level is reached. This may sound simple, yet this method takes patience and drives up labor costs. However, what you get in the end is an exceptionally delicious, healthy cup of coffee with phytochemicals and micro-nutrients intact.
WHAT MAKES OUR COFFEE ‘GIRLIE’?
Why a coffee specifically grown, roasted and processed for women? Besides the yummy flavor, there are specific reasons why Deliciously Girlie coffee is better for a woman's health than poorly grown and processed coffee. Current research indicates that women are i.e. more likely to retain cancer-causing substances than men. We absorb chemicals differently, our bodies contain more fat cells where chemicals and pollutants are oftentimes stored. With this in mind, it makes sense that women seek out food products that are pure and natural, without chemicals, flavor enhancers, pesticides and preservatives. We don't need any more chemicals in our bodies, which is why Deliciously Girlie coffee is grown, processed and roasted the way nature intended coffee to be.
It is also low in acid, meaning not only is it easy on the tummy, but easy on our pH levels as well. Most women are naturally more acidic, especially as we reach midlife and beyond. Unfortunately, most women are naturally more acidic, especially as we reach midlife and beyond. This is when our buffer systems, including kidneys, lungs, and pancreas, don’t work as efficiently. A diet high in alkaline foods. It’s the best way to bring your body back into a healthy pH balance. DELICIOUSLY GIRLIE coffee is low in acids and your tummy will greatly appreciate it. Acidic foods make it difficult for our bodies to achieve a healthy acid/alkaline, or pH, balance—something many physicians believe plays a critical role in our overall health. Getting our bodies to that coveted "alkaline state" is a goal that an increasing number of women are focused on. Deliciously Girlie coffee helps women attain this goal because its grown, processed and roasted to be lower in acid, allowing the female coffee drinker to enjoy a delicious cup of coffee (guilt-free), without having a measurable negative impact on her pH balance.

WHAT MAKES DELICIOUSLY GIRLIE COFFEE ‘EASY ON THE TUMMY’?
Our stomach-friendly coffee comes from specially shade grown, hand-picked, sun-dried and lightly roasted coffee beans in which known irritants are markedly reduced, yet the coffee retains its naturally delicious taste, aroma and caffeine. Handpicking only the reddest, ripest coffee cherries and sun drying eliminates the accompanying heartburn and/or indigestion often associated with coffee consumption. Machines that harvest coffee cannot decipher between coffee that is cherry ripe (red and perfect for picking), green (unripe), or brown (cherry that has rotted on the tree). Inferior beans are what causes the bitterness and 'acid-burn' oftentimes associated with coffee drinking.
Commercial grades of coffee also utilize a mechanical drying method, which forces hot air over the beans to speed up the drying process. This method proves less labor intensive, therefore lowering the price. However, one can actually taste the difference between sun and kiln-dried beans. Sun-dried coffee maintains more of a delicate, mellow flavor--whereas kiln-dried coffee will oftentimes lose some of the aromas that Kona coffee is famous for. Sun-drying also removes chlorophyll, which makes coffee beans less acidic and more digestible.
WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN ARABICA and ROBUSTA COFFEES?
Coffee beans are the processed, roasted pits of coffee cherries that are grown on roughly 10 ft tall trees all over the tropics. There’s the high quality Arabica coffee grown in 'specialty coffee' regions like Kona, Hawaii, and there’s cheaper Robusta coffee (often South American), with less taste and texture. No indication on your bag of coffee means you got the cheapo “Robusta” version.
WHAT DO BIG CORPORATIONS HAVE TO DO WITH MY COFFEE?
Coffee is sold as a ‘commodity’ on the stock market, meaning the ownership of coffee changes multiple times on paper before it physically reaches the roasters and stores. This often results in old, and even contaminated shipments (think rats, bugs, mold growth, shriveled dry beans, etc.), because when you own it only for a couple of hours the only concern is towards the profit margin, right?
Corporate owned coffee lacks not only in aroma, but also in flavor. There are more than 850 natural flavor compounds in good coffee, so in order to counter the lack of natural flavors, artificial aroma enhancers or and even (imagine!) COFFEE flavor extracts are added back into the roasting, grinding and packaging process. Numerous related patents are filed by the food giants to make their brews taste again like... well, coffee. And in those instances where flavor enhancers don't do the job they're supposed to, they can always pour hazelnut or amaretto flavor over the beans to make them taste of at least something.
Deliciously Girlie Coffee is a ‘private reserve’ coffee, meaning the coffee is hand-picked from our very own trees in sunny Kona, naturally processed and freshly roasted, then delivered directly to your door-step. There is no middle-man or corporation, just one coffee lovin' gal (along with her hubby and kids), growing coffee for the rest of the gals.
WHY 100% KONA COFFEE?
Kona is a sparsely populated district on the Big Island of Hawaii. Perfect and unique coffee growing conditions in one of the cleanest environments left on Mother Earth still exist here. The surrounding ocean filters air and water for at least 3,000 miles in each direction and the volcanic soil is the youngest, most fertile and mineral richest anywhere. No polluting industries are located on the island, and because its the only coffee in the US, the agriculture and laborer enjoy all the protection of Uncle Sam’s laws. Only approx. 2 million pounds of this extraordinarily, mellow and richly flavored Kona Coffee is produced each year in Hawaii’s Kona region. Others will most likely jump on our bandwagon and call their coffees ‘women’s coffee’ too, so we advice you to really check any claims and sources of their coffees carefully. Watch out that every Kona coffee you’ll buy should have a 100% Kona label on it, as the State law of Hawaii stipulates. Many fake the famous origin by calling it e.g. ‘10% Kona Blends’, ‘Kona Style’, ‘Kona Roast’, ‘Kona Classic’ exist and bank on the uniformed consumer to believe they would get the real stuff.
WHAT’S SO SPECIAL ABOUT THE ROASTING & GRINDING OF DELICIOUSLY GIRLIE COFFEE?
We roast and grind our coffee with the 'silver skins' still intact. These fibrous skins, encasing the green beans are normally milled away, and are often considered a byproduct of coffee processing. Yet a 2004 Italian study has evaluated these wafer thin membranes as being rich in soluble dietary fiber. They are tasteless and colorless and you won’t notice them in your ground coffee. The University in Reading, Britain also discovered a much higher content of antioxidant activity in light to medium roasted coffee. It just so happens that Deliciously Girlie coffee is lightly roasted to ensure increased antioxidant levels.
Deliciously Girlie coffee also utilizes the 'burr-grinding' method. This method is burr-based with two revolving elements that crush the beans with less risk of burning. The intricate design of the steel burrs allows a high gear reduction to slow down the grinding speed. The slower the speed, the less heat is imparted to the ground coffee, thus preserving maximum amount of aroma. Most modern "grinders" actually chop the bean into pieces (and some coffee drinkers merely use a home blender to do the job). Blade grinders create “coffee dust” which can clog up sieves in espresso machines and French presses. Although this method is often most economical, the result is dramatically less effective in producing a homogeneous, and unheated grind--therefore, creating a degraded product in the cup.
THE KASHRUS OF DELICIOUSLY GIRLIE COFFEE
Deliciously Girlie coffee is prepared in strict observance of all Kosher and organic requirements. All unflavored, roasted coffees are considered Kosher--sugar and/or milk may be added (not creamer), and is cholov stam. Since coffee is a food product that is prepared from a plant, it is important for many people of the Jewish faith to know that their beans are prepared according to Jewish law. Deliciously Girlie coffee is grown, processed, roasted and packaged in accordance with Jewish dietary guidelines or "Kahrut" (which means "clean, fit or proper"). There are absolutely NO emulsifiers, additives, preservatives, colorings or flavors used in Deliciously Girlie coffee, nor are any other foods products processed on our coffee farm. What you get is 100% pure Kona Coffee, the way nature intended it to be.
